Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016)
In the Spirit Realm, Grand Master Oogway fights against General Kai, a spirit warrior yak who has defeated all the other dead kung fu masters and stolen their chi. Oogway has his own chi stolen, but not before he warns Kai that someone is destined to stop him. Kai uses the chi he stole to return to the Mortal Realm.
Meanwhile, Master Shifu announces his retirement from teaching, and names Po as his successor. Po's first attempts to teach inadvertently injure the Furious Five, and Shifu advises Po should try to be more like himself and less like Shifu. Disheartened, Po returns home, where he meets Li Shan, a panda that both quickly realize is Po's biological father, who came to find Po after receiving a sign from the universe that his son was alive. The two immediately bond, much to the dismay and jealousy of Po's adoptive father Mr. Ping.
After introducing Li to Shifu and the Five, Po joins the Five to defend the Valley of Peace from Kai's jade zombies, the remains of the kung fu masters that had their chi stolen. Through research, the group learns that Kai and Oogway were once friends, and that Kai saved a wounded Oogway's life by taking him to a secret panda village to be healed. The pandas taught Oogway to give healing chi, but Kai learned to take chi from others for his own personal power, forcing Oogway to banish him to the Spirit Realm. Li offers to take Po to the village to learn chi and defeat Kai, while Shifu and the Five prepare to protect the Valley. Mr. Ping stows away, hoping to drive a wedge between Po and Li, but is soon discovered. Upon arriving at the village, Li refuses to teach Po chi until he has learned to live the relaxed lifestyle of a panda.
Kai, hoping to erase Oogway's legacy, steals the chi of every living kung fu master and destroys the Jade Palace. Only Master Tigress escapes, tracking down Po and telling him what happened. When Po demands that Li teach him how to use chi immediately, Li confesses that he lied about knowing chi out of fear of losing his son again. Hurt by his father's misdirection, Po disowns Li and trains alone to defeat Kai, while a repentant Mr. Ping sympathizes with Li and assures that Po will forgive him.
After an argument with Tigress, Po admits he cannot defeat Kai alone. Li, Mr. Ping and the pandas ask Po to teach them kung fu. Realizing what previously made him fail as a teacher, Po trains them to not imitate his kung fu but instead to use their everyday activities as kung fu skills. Between training, Po and Li reconcile, and both prepare for Kai's attack.
The film ... follows Po, the chosen one, as he continues on his journey mastering the art of kung fu... and noodle slurping. Continuing on his now legendary adventures of awesomeness, Po must face two hugely epic, but very different threats: one supernatural and the other a little closer to home.
Oogway fights against his old bull adversary in the spirit realm, an undead warrior named Kai, who has defeated all the other kung fu masters in the realm and taken their chi. Oogway too is ensnared and has his chi stolen, but not before he warns Kai that the Dragon Warrior, Po, will stop him. Kai takes this as a challenge to steal the Dragon Warrior's chi and returns to the mortal realm.
Meanwhile, Master Shifu announces his retirement from teaching and passes the role of teacher to Po. An initially excited Po realizes that teaching kung fu is not as easy as anticipated, and the Furious Five are injured as a result. Po is demoralized because of his failure, but Shifu advises Po that instead of trying to be like Shifu, he should try to be himself. Po returns home where he meets a panda, Li Shan, whom they realize is his long-lost biological father. They quickly bond with each other, much to Po's adoptive father, Mr. Ping's jealousy.
After introducing Li to Shifu and his friends, Po and the Five defend the Valley of Peace from jade zombies that Kai has created from the chi of past kung fu masters. The team learns through research that Oogway and Kai were once brothers-in-arms and very close friends. After Oogway was injured in battle, Kai carried him to a village of pandas who healed him with their mastery of chi. The pandas then taught Oogway how to utilize chi to help others. However, Kai wanted the power for himself and tried to steal the pandas' chi, forcing Oogway to banish him to the spirit realm. To defeat Kai, Po must learn to master the use of chi himself. Li offers to teach him by taking him to his secret panda village. While Shifu and the Furious Five stay behind to deal with Kai, Po and Li travel to the village. Mr. Ping comes along as a stowaway, worried that he will lose Po's affections to Li. Although Po is eager to learn chi, Li tells him he must first learn the relaxed life of a panda in the village.
Kai takes the chi of nearly every kung fu master in China, including Shifu and the Furious Five, except Tigress, who escapes warning Po and the other pandas that Kai is coming. Afraid, Li and the pandas prepare to run away. When Po demands that Li teach him how to use chi immediately, Li confesses that he lied to him about chi mastery and that he only brought Po to their village because he was afraid of losing him again. Furious over his father's misdirection, Po isolates himself to train vigorously in preparation for fighting Kai. Mr. Ping, who realizes Po has become happier with Li in his life, tells Li that Po being mad at him is part of being a father, but Po will forgive him. So Li goes back to Po and says the pandas will help him fight Kai's army. Realizing what had previously made him fail as a teacher, Po agrees and teaches them to use their everyday activities as kung fu skills.
Kai arrives and sends his minions to capture Po, who sets the pandas, Ping, and Tigress upon them, distracting Kai. They defeat the jade zombie army, but when Po tries to use his signature Wuxi Finger Hold on Kai to send him back to the spirit realm, Kai reveals that it only works on mortals, not a spirit warrior like himself. Kai gains the upper hand in their fight, but Po uses the Wuxi Finger Hold on himself while gripping Kai around the neck, transporting them to the spirit realm. They fight again, and Kai subdues Po and begins to steal his chi. Using what they learned from Po, his friends and family use their chi to empower him. Po harnesses their chi to create a giant dragon figure with which he overpowers and defeats Kai, destroying him and restoring all fallen masters to normal.
In an ethereal golden pond, Oogway appears to Po and informs him that his journey as the Dragon Warrior has come full circle, declaring Po to be his successor. He reveals that he sent Li to find Po. Po chooses to return to the mortal world and brings with him a mystic jade yin-yang staff bestowed by Oogway. He and his extended family all return to the valley, continuing to practice kung fu and chi.
Yeah we get it pandas are fat and it's hilarious when they fall over. It's more than enough to have Po fulfil the funny fat guy quota. The panda town is like a collection of Kevin James', which is about as charming as that sounds.
Instead of building up to a grand finale for the Kung Fu Panda trilogy, part 3 feels like it pumps the breaks and rounds Po's story out on a much lighter and joky note. There is nothing wrong with a kids movie feeling like a kids movie. But after how awesomely dark the last one got, made this silly sequel with Po's panda reunion and stopping a Chi thief feel inconsequential.
Po and the Furious Five are back in Kung Fu Panda 3, the hilarious and critically acclaimed hit film your whole family will love! When Po discovers a secret village of fun-loving, clumsy pandas, he must train them to defeat Kai, a supernatural villain who threatens to destroy Kung Fu.
KUNG FU PANDA 3 (Fox) Po, that free-spirited martial-arts panda, faces an evil bull that has absorbed the powers of other masters in the spirit realm. Animated sequel with voice cast including Jack Black, Jackie Chan, J.K. Simmons, Kate Hudson. (PG; mild rude humor)
Po: I've been asking myself that question. Am I the son of a panda? The son of a goose? A student? A teacher? I'm all of those things. [Po's chi forms the shape of a dragon around him] I am the Dragon Warrior! Get it? You see the giant dragon?
Po: [follows him on the bridge] What are you talking about? I've done everything you've asked. I've mastered napping, sleeping in, hammocks, hot tubs. I am totally at one with my panda parts! Why can't you show me now!?
Po: I've been asking the same question - am I the son of a panda, the son of a goose, a student, a teacher? Turns out... I'm all of them. [creates a Dragon avatar with his chi] I am the Dragon Warrior. Get it?! See the giant dragon? [laughs] Get ready to feel the thunder! Whoa! This is awesome!
Kai: [last words before his death] Yes! The power... is mine! [the jade pendants, the chi he has collected from the Masters, begin to break away from him] Wait! No! It's too much! It's TOO MUCH!! NO! UGH!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! [Kai begins to glow, overloaded with power, as the pendant of Oogway floats away from him] Nooooo!!! [In a flash of light, Kai is destroyed; back in the panda village, the jade pendant of Master Bear emerges from the spirit realm and shatters, releasing him] 041b061a72
