How realistic is stem cell treatment for liver cirrhosis?
Hello. My dad has compensated cirrhosis (alcohol-related, already stopped drinking 3 years ago). The hepatologist says nothing can really repair the liver now, only slow progression. But online I see stories about stem cell therapy supposedly regenerating liver tissue. Has anyone here actually researched this seriously or knows someone who tried it? Is it worth considering or mostly hype?

I looked into it quite a bit last year when my aunt was in a similar situation. From what I read and heard from people who went through clinics abroad, it’s not a full cure, especially in advanced stages, but in compensated or early decompensated cases some patients do show better fibrosis scores and improved liver function tests after the procedure + supporting therapy. Results vary a lot depending on overall health, age, how long ago they quit alcohol, etc.
One detailed review I found helpful (real patient timeline + lab changes) is here https://stemplus.clinic/disease-treatment/cirrhosis/ – it’s not promising miracles, just showing what one person experienced step by step. Definitely discuss any real option with a good hepatologist first, because not every clinic is equally serious.
